New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) was established under “An Act to Provide for the Establishment of Schools of Industrial Education” and was named Newark Technical School. The act was introduced on March 24, 1880, and was sponsored by The Newark Board of Trade. The institute started operations on February 9, 1885, with just 88 students. Over the years, the institute has established itself as a reputed educational institution. The programmes offered by the college are accredited by various prestigious organizations like Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA), Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).
